60 Excuses for a Closed Mind
Just something to think about
- We tried that before.
- Our place is different.
- It costs too much.
- That’s beyond our control.
- That’s not my job.
- We’re all too busy to do that.
- It’s too radical of a change for this group.
- We don’t have the time.
- There is not enough help.
- That will make the other equipment obsolete.
- Let’s make a market research test of it first.
- Our plant is too small for it.
- Not practical for operating people.
- The people will never buy it.
- The supervisors will scream.
- We’ve never done it before.
- It’s against company policy.
- It runs up our overhead.
- We don’t have the authority.
- That’s too ivory tower.
- Let’s get back to reality.
- That’s not our problem.
- Why change, it’s still okay.
- I don’t like the idea.
- You’re right, but. . .
- You’re two years ahead of time.
- We’re not ready for that idea.
- We don’t have the money, the room, the equipment, the personnel, etc.
- It isn’t in the budget.
- It’s a good thought but highly impractical.
- You cannot teach an old dog new tricks.
- Let’s hold it in abeyance.
- Let’s give it more thought.
- Management would never do something like that.
- Let’s put it in writing.
- We’ll be the laughing stock of the public.
- Not that crazy idea again!
- We’d lose in the long run.
- Where did you dig that one up?
- We did all right without it.
- That’s what to expect for staff.
- It’s never been tried.
- Let’s shelve that idea for the moment.
- Let’s form a committee.
- Has anyone else ever done it?
- Division won’t like it.
- I don’t see the connection.
- It won’t work in our plant.
- What are you really saying?
- Maybe that will work in your department, but not in mine.
- The Employee Involvement Committee will never do it.
- Don’t you think we should look into it before we act?
- What do they do at our competitor’s plant?
- Let’s sleep on it.
- It can’t be done.
- It’s too much trouble to change.
- It won’t pay for itself.
- I know a fellow who it tried it.
- It’s impossible.
- We’ve always done it this way.
- And the all time favorite — WE’RE NO WORSE THAN OUR COMPETITORS!
